()Have a message for you.
I'm to tell you Dad says that his Eastwood Star Moonlight did good, it came 1st in it's class. The ndc might have sent the wrong varieties again but they supplied us a winner.
Dad said to tell you Thanks again from him.

Even with all that going on at the show the thing that has brought the most pride is something non Dahlia related.
My Mum gave Fairy a £1 as she hadn't won anything because she felt sorry for her. Fairy ran off, spent it and came back with a box. She gave it to Nanny. "I've brought you a present Nanny." Mum opened the lid, inside was a gold necklace with a heart pendant. She'd spent the whole £1 on a present for Nanny.
I know that Pirate did well and was so happy & excited but Fairy's present for her Nanny brought tears of pride to my eyes.
I'm welling up now, just thinking about it.
Time to go to bed.

My old society did something for the childrens' classes which was quite good I thought. Alongside each exhibit was placed a polystyrene cup with lid which had a slot in it. People were asked to donate to exhibit they considered best. In practice most folks seemed to put money in each cup and parents/friends tended to put in more but the final result was that every child got a cup full of dosh. The money wasn't counted or used as part of the judging but all the kids got something. They also got a 'Highly commended' card even if they didn't win anything.

Yes indeed.....a lovely idea.......but........the children need to realise that they can't all win!!!!!.....that's been the problem with doing away with sports days.....the kids ALL think they have to be winners......and I'm afraid life isn't like that !!

In this case they still had 1st, 2nd and 3rd as well. The idea was that everyone got something to help encourage entries. It seemed to work as I recall but I don't know whether they still do it as I moved over seven years ago.

I know what you are saying Lou but I still like Sweetpeas idea.
My girls' school has Sports Day. It is actually one of the things that I like about it. I believe that everyone deserves the chance to shine and there are some children who struggle with the academic subjects but are really strong at sports. There are others like me who were pretty much average across the board and absolutely rubbish at sports. If I some how managed to come 7th in race of 8 that would have been a fantastic result.
I hated sports day with a passion but I think that it is important and like you say Lou we can't all be winners in life Lou.
It was awful watching our daughter who seemed to be doing ok, trip, stumble and fall flat on her face in her race. The Head Teacher went over to her helped her up and ran with her together to the finish line. It's happened a couple of times and to be honest we just spend the whole day hoping that they finish the race without falling over.
I like to think that our girls' 'get' the idea that they can't win everything. I like the fact that they are pretty much 'have a go' at everything, although Fairy has reached that age where she has started doubting in her own ability. "I'm rubbish at..." I can't stop her feeling like that but I do try my best to know that that is not how I perceive her.

Been round my Mum and Dad's today with my Sister. Talking to Mum on the phone when I got told by Dad that one of my Staleen Condessa seedlings wasn't fully open yet but looks interesting. Although there was a difference of opinion about the colour. Dad told me that it was yellow and purple and my Sister said No it isn't purple. It is fire. Yellow and Red.
I'm glad that I went.
I'll sort out the photo.

Here it is:
Now I know that my Mum and Sister had said that they like it and that my Dad was quite keen for me to come and have a look.
This photo speaks volumes. It's the wool, it's the red wool.
The way that my Dad marks seedlings to be kept is to tie red 'wool' wool - i.e. not blended with anything else, it breaks down naturally but he can snap it with his hands rather than fuss around with blades and it has to be bright red because it won't fade.
Dad asked me if I liked it and if I wanted to keep that one... Then he picked up the red wool and tied it.
The photo says it all.
I'll do a photo of the bloom itself in a bit but for me this is the best photo. Anything good enough for Dad's red wool is a Massive WOW! to me.
I'm very lucky.

Well my Sister is adamant that it is fire red & yellow, Dad said purple & yellow.
Wonder if I could get away with Magenta & Yellow?

It might have Staleen Condessa has it's Mother but it's almost certainly got some Weston Spanish Dancer in it! (or perhaps Pirate, it has longer petals compared with Flamingo and Miss.)
It's still quite a young bloom, so it really is quite a big thing that it has been Red Wool Knotted already.
I am glad that I collected all those seeds Staleen Condessa seeds. As I've said before I was adamant that I didn't want to grow it again because it was too tall, so I gave Dad my tuber. I gave Dad most of my Staleen seeds because I couldn't risk a forest in my garden but I am glad that I did plant some up myself. Remember all those seedlings with pink labels? Well Dad planted them with their pink labels and so it really it one of my seedlings.
So that's it. I've got 3 seedlings, that I want to keep together with my Lilac Willo's Violet sport cutting that I'm trying to keep.
