Everything that lives eventually dies and there are many reasons why things die so you need to have a good knowledge of your fish (in this case) or plants or pets in order to work out the cause of death. Could it have been old age? Was any disease evident? Was the fish displaying erratic behaviour. Any toxic substance accidentally introduced to the pond? Etc. etc. If it still remains a mystery then you will never know for sure. You need to do a little detective work to figure it out.

That's a shame Joysie , maybe as it was a large fish it could have just been old age as sweetpea says?

I dont know if this would be the cause as i had a piece of wooden bench to stop the herons eating the fish over the pond and wondered if it had been painted with anything so my son took it off today i cleaned the pump out so hopefully i wont lose anymore

Is it wise to plant a white cala lilly in my fish pond Well put it this way joysie. It is not UNwise. I had calla lilies growing in our fish pond and there was no problem until that cold winter a few years back when the plants got killed off. I have some more growing in the g'house and when they are big enough some will be planted in the pond.
