I have a few spare Mistletoe berries if anyone would like some to squish onto a tree and see if it'll grow.

Thats looking fab , did you just rub the berries on the bark or did you make a notch for the berries to be squished into?

Rubbed them on to the bark Rosie, it's a bit of a job as they want to stick to your fingers also some birds like them too so I wrapped a bit of netting round the trunk to protect them until they took

I can't get mistletoe to take here. I had loads in Oxfordshire and other people grew it from my berries, but after trying again in March last year, the birds took all the berries. I will try this year and use this tip steve.

I would love to have a go at this. How long do they take to, erm, take?

They have to be sown fresh so around now is ideal, first year they send 2 prongs out which attach to the host second year they start producing leaves, I don't think the page where I got mine exists any more but google them or search on ebay

You can get kits from Tenbury Mistletoe You could always have a tree in a pot Suzie then you can take it with you where ever you move too.

I've had great success with all of the following rosie (and anyone else that want's to try these hosts)... Amelanchier Crataegus Malus Sorbus (at least on Sorbus scalaris) Acer palmatum Acer platanoides Surprisingly never had success with Pear which being closely related to malus, Crataegus and Sorbus is surprising? The two Acer species certainly work well and perhaps other species too but have not tried any yet.
