I have been putting compost and semi rotted mulch down the soil is nice and rich but it still drys out! I have a bag of wet shavings I'm going to put down somewere to rot down, a bag of home made compost and 2 bins of semi rotted.. What can I plant that will grow well? (And not too expensive please lol) x

Floydie, you have given us no details about the position. Is there much sun and what height are you wanting? You grow good primulas, so you could extend these.

Yes in sun most of the day as is most of the back garden. I want some tall plants. The only thing that does well in this area is the geraniums towards the front.

It sounds ideal and you can choose what you want really.

Hi Floydie, one plant you can't beat for dry poor growing ares is Nasturtium. They grow well too under a leylandeii hedge as I have discovered.. If you use them do NOT enrich the soil as you will get foliage at the expense of flowers, The poorer the soil the better they flower.

.its a 3ftx4ft area roughly so I would ideally like a mix of plants. Something that will come back is a plus! Water just runs away thats the problem. Its had lots of organic matter added already.
