....won't the pot be a bit too restrictive though Oh yes, I'm sure it will, but it will be enough (I hope) to serve me for a year or maybe two. I guess I could root prune - maybe? This is just one of the 'joys' of gardening on the move

I wouldn't worry about it Piskie, I moved a magnolia a couple of years ago which had been planted in no soil, it flowered every year although it always looked a little poorly. It survived where it was for over eight years so yours in a pot will last until you are settled enough to plant it. I'll try and find the photos to show you.

This was the Magnolia The previous owner had removed a couple of cobles and stuck the plant in the hole This is the root system it had. The only soil was a few worm casts, the rest was hardcore.

I hasn't flowered since I moved it I think they do sulk if they're moved, so it's 'patience' time for you!

I'm hoping it will pick up, I'm sure it would have died if I left it where it was.

while we're on the subject of moving magnolias, have I left it too late to move my Stellata? I know I've asked this before, but I couldn't find the answer

I hasn't flowered since I moved it I think this a classic case of the plant flowering when it thinks it may kick the bucket, and not needing to flower when it has plenty of food for growth.

WF To the left of your water barrels I see a small iron pot holder. I once made one like that for an old Lady who had an old iron boiler that stood precariously on bricks. I think they are great as in a strong wind the pot won't topple. How many of you know what an old iron boiler looks like? ;D

I dug the pot holder out of the garden, I also found the pot holders which used to hang in the chimney to suspend pots over an open fire.
