I`m not a great basket or pot grower MC because of all the watering but I have been inspired this year with all your baskets and bought a couple and I may pinch your idea with the strawberries AND i can see a few pots being hung on my shed great ideas . Nice to see your tomatoes have germinated A few more tomatoes have popped up over the weekend too amazing the growth of things isn't it, never ceases to amaze me

I'm with you on that one KC.
How can a tiny seed produce a tomato, or a courgete, just by weaving together water, sunshine, and a few trace elements ? Now, I did Biology at school, and learned about photosynthesis and the nitrogen-fixing cycle and all that. But I also did physics, and learned about Conservation of Energy. (you can only get out what you put in, minus a bit for transfer wastage). On that basis, courgettes seem impossible.
Mind you, I also read that it is impossible for Bumble Bees to fly, using classic aerodynamics.
Perhaps we ought to keep this stuff to ourselves ? If the plants and the bees catch on, they might suddenly stop growing. At which point all the other forum members will come round and pummel us !

I did Biology/Photosynthesis too Roofgardener, mind you at secondary school and now I wish I'd listened I loved Physics at the time, and now remember didly squat about it I agree, mums the word, we don't want a forum fight on our hands!!! Have you any idea are blueberries difficult to grow from seed? I've a few I'm going to bung in and see how they go in the greenhouse, worth a shot even if they don't germinate

you certainly have plenty to keep you busy KC, I love your setup Thanks grindle me too It definitely does keep me busy. Though we were talking at the weekend about putting up a 40' x 20' polytunnel at hubby's homeplace so that will be exciting any tips/hints/suggestions?
Just wondering, any tips on the polytunnel? Trying to get our thinking and planning done now before we start actually doing it

KC make sure you use UV resistant polythene. Ordinary stuff rots quickly. My last tunnel was up for over 6 years and still in good nick when we moved. Also some are 'Drip proof' can't remember the technical term. I made my end doors so that they rolled up, much better and fairly easy to do. Put down weed suppressing fabric where you are not cultivating, saves a lot of weeding. If I think of anything else I'll mention it. keeps about 4c. Above freezing in winter

It will probably be 40ft by 20ft with a big door or double doors at the front and it will be 7ft high. The cover is definitely going to be the tricky part. We will now be looking for drip proof Sounds good so far. Hubby mentioned the fabric so that will be good a neighbour can give us as much dung as required which is great We will sit down and design it some of these nights, to get the sizes for the beds, paths etc, then we can decide what we want to plant. All very exciting. Thanks Sweetpea

I know both my Sister and my Parents like them, so perhaps I should think about growing them myself ? I presume they form some sort of bush ? Like ... dunno... peas or something ?

I've never grown from seed before, just young plants. They don't grow very tall, about 3' for a mature plant, and bushy. Though they don't take up too much space. You should definitely give them a go. Ericaceous compost and rainwater are the only tips

I will keep you posted roofgardener shouldn't be too long. 15 of my fuchsia plug plants arrived yesterday, still waiting on 5 more, all for OHs home place as we're trying to tidy it up at the moment So I got those potted on this morning. I gave them a good watering, I will put them in the greenhouse later, I only got time to make some space lol, then I'd to scoot to work I will upload some more pics next week of how everything is growing. I am a bit concerned I have to say about last years strawberries, nothing at all happening with them ;(

Have you given last years strawbs any food yet KC ?
Mine where looking a bit lacklustre 6 weeks or so ago, so I brought them into the greenhouse for a month, fed them (twice, at fortnighly intervals)... and then put them outside three weeks ago when we started to have nicer weather. And now they're growing like mad, and putting flowers out !
These are the first strawbs I've ever grown, so I don't claim to be any sort of expert, mind you.

To tell you the truth roofgardener, I thought I had, but now I'm beginning to wonder. If I did it was at the beginning of this month. I will give them a/another feed this evening when I get home from work. I will get son to leave food out so I remember lol I will definitely give that a go. Last year was my first attempt, so unsure what to expect this year, didn't expect so much nothing though Thanks

Is there ANY sign of new growth, KC ? (it's easy to spot 'cos it's bright green, as opposed to the darker green of last years growth).
