Is there ANY sign of new growth, KC ? (it's easy to spot 'cos it's bright green, as opposed to the darker green of last years growth). Roofy, I am amazed. You have gone from pleading for advice to, now, giving expert advice. Well done you.

ROFL... thanks daitheplant. However, I'm not sure that - in the plant world - the question "is it green ?" constitutes expert advice

Yup I will take some tonight, or over the weekend, I haven't got round to feeding them yet with the rain chucking down here but I will be doing that asap. Maybe I cut them down too soon, or too far last year

They should be at least in bud now, if not flowering.

Hmmm.... mine didn't do anything for the first year... just produced a few leaves. Now, I'm saying "the first year", but they where given by a friend, so they could have been two years old ?

First year, they are suckers, second year they are plants that should be fruiting. Year 3 they should have their best crop. Ideally, you plant fresh young plants every two years.

Well I am hobbling about a little better at the moment so I got out this morning and gave everything an extra good extra long watering everything was crying out for it I think. All is looking fairly good in the GH too, I must try and take some photos soon. I still need to get OH to get the shelves cut and in the back of the greenhouse as extra shelving to get the tomatoes, penstemon and fuchsia in as I have them on the dining table at the moment until the shelves are done. I am also having to do away with the compost bin as what I suspected might happen has happened, as everything is breaking down the liquid has nowhere to go other than run out onto the concrete yard which is smelly and unsightly, I'd have persevered a while longer only it's putting the pups mental lol so our son is transferring that into the bin for emptying on Friday. The composter can go over OHs home place in the meantime to be used over there when we move (not in the near future). Then I want to rejig a few things in the back yard when the composter is away. I have new strawberry runners this year in one of those plastic hanging baskets with the wee holes round the sides of them but they aren't doing so well so I might transplant them elsewhere.

Broken toe or not I hobbled out the back this morning and shovelled the compost bin contents into the recycle bin for council emptying in the morning... the leakage was too much too close to the house and not pleasant for the pups so bang went that. I hosed everywhere clean. I unblocked a wee drain. I gave all the plants a good soaking. I began moving pots away from the corner to rearrange everything as while we were out last night Bob jumped up on the potato bags that are on the summer seat and knocked down one of the window boxes off the window sill, so that was an unnecessary clearing up late last night lol but I couldn't be cross with his wee cute face and sorry eyes lol. Basically I need to move the summer seat away from the windows. I also moved the coal bunker and bin too this morning. I will put all the plants and summer seat where I want them tonight when I get home from work. We really need to get a load of blocks too, need to get them over in the trailer, then we can take away the compost bin.

Sorry to hear your composting wasn't a success KC, but I guess it's not ideal for a small yard like you say. Good to hear your getting back on your feet though.

My compost is finer than the bags I bought. It is a Dalek bin straight on the ground and I empty peelings, etc., into it every evening. Would this sort be suitable for your yard KC?
