In the garden we have a basic kind of seat. just two uprights and a plank. About 2' high. On it is a pyrex cooking dish about 2" deep with water for the birds. Yesterday we found two dead frogs in it. How they got there I have no idea and even though they appeared to be young frogs I would think they could have got out again ok. It was the day of the very strong winds so whether that had a bearing on it I don't know. Any ideas?

A ny herons in the area sweetpea? Or perhaps a cat. We have cats and heron in the past but no sighting of heron since we covered the pond over. Doubt our cats would be resposible as they tend to bring any kill to the door. Thanks all the same, you could be right although I can't figure out why they would be in that dish.

There is no way they would just jump in the dish and drown. They have been put or dropped in there.

That is strange isn't it sweetpea , I did once find a frog struggling in a metal watering can in our garden & had to help it out, the can was full of water but the frog couldn't get a grip on anything to climb out. I leave a twig in it now in case one climbs in again. If they were very tiny frogs it's possible they could have climbed up the seat legs & maybe the dish was too slippery for them to climb or jump out of?

What if a heron was taking them to feed young, but somehow managed to drop them? It happens.

The mystery deepens then. Is there a pond near to the bench?
