Hi I am growing some tomatoes in my greenhouse and up to now they are doing marvellous. There are absolutely loads of them. There is also a lot of foliage and I'm wondering do I just carry on watering every day and feeding once a week as I have been doing or do I chop the tops off to stop any more appearing so that the tomatoes already there will not be deprived of feed. Are there any tip anyone can give me as this is the first time Ive grown them .Thank you in advance :-)

Good evening blossom and welcome to the site. Any side shoots should be removed, leaving the flowering/fruiting stems. Once the plants have made 5 trusses take the growing tips out. Keep watering daily and feeding weekly.

Good advice there from Daitheplant Blossom, and welcome to the forums, you can't be doing much wrong if you have plenty of foliage and plenty of fruits, I also like to take off some of the lower leaves as long as there is plenty of foliage higher up

Thank you daitheplant and steve for your replies it will be my first job tomorrow to tend to my tom plants, I will thin a little of the foliage and chop the tops off, so excited as they look so healthy and can't wait to taste them. Gardening is my new found hobby since me and my hubby have just retired :-)

You seem to be doing everything right and I agree with what the other two have said.

Just to add to what the others have said. If they are in grow bags they will need supplementary feeding. If in the border (ground) I would still give a liquid feed at least once a week. I generally use phostrogen but there quite a few on the market one of the best imho is Maxicrop liquid seaweed extract. It is also good as a foliar feed which you would spray on the leaves. i believe there is one formulation specially made for tomatoes now.
