Hello. We have been warned of a bad storm coming. I'm worried about my window boxes and pot plants. Will it harm them? Is there anyway I can cover them? We had pretty bad rain last week and the flowers look a bit bedraggled. I'm so proud of my first time growing flowers don't want to loose them.

Lilliepop. there is not much you can do,really. As long as there is not much damage to the plants, they will recover. I`m afraid the weather is all part of the gardeners life.

Relax lilliepop. They will look bedraggled again, but will soon pick up as daitheplant said. Sometimes you can use these adverse weather conditions to work out what you should plant next year. Some plants don't stand up to the rain as well as others.

The only thing I could suggest to protect your plants lilliepop would be if you had a greenhouse or shed you could put them in for a day or two if you wanted to save them from getting a battering if we do have some bad storms. Although as daitheplant and Cherry have already said, they should recover even if they do. On the other hand, how often have the weather forecasters got it wrong!

I agree with what the others have said. Heavy rain may damage the flowers but the plants should survive to flower again.

I suppose the next thing is Big Bertha en route from the Carribbean due to arrive in Wales on Sunday. Oh well, as I don't go to church anyway I should stay dry. I don't mind the rain, it is high winds that seem to be the most destructive force and not always the easiest to protect against.

We are experiencing the heaviest rain I have seen for years right now. It is interfering with the television and running over the guttering around the house.

We have had a decent downpour, this evening. More worried about the strong winds forecasted For Sunday into Monday, it could wipe out a lot of Dahlia plants, for the exhibitors.

Been dry, bright and hot all day here. Chilly now though.
