I am thinking of making a bird box and putting it up a tree that is at the end of the garden, a little project for me. What I would like to know is the fixing to the tree, would it be ok to drill a small hole in the top and one at the bottom and nail it to the tree. The tree is a cherry blossom, I think, as it dose have white blossom in the spring. The tree is well over 45 year old.

I believe you can downlad plans from the RSPB site.
Should be ok to nail or better still, screw omto tree making sure to face north as if facing south the box can get overheated.

I am well over half way to finishing the box, just got to add the last side, good job that clean it out was mentioned as I have screwed and glued but the side panel I will hinge with some kind of lock or peg.
I have one more question.
Do I put a perch at the front under the entrance hole?
