i know I am thick (don't answer that!) but I have no idea what it means to 'Tag' a post. What does it do? Why do it? Perhaps someone can explain in words of one syllable (or less) bearing in mind I can be a right numpty at times. (don't answer that either ) ps Just noticed that the option to Tag a post is no longer there. I wonder why.

sweetpea I've just tagged you in replying, but how you actually tag a post I have no idea.

Andrew, what did you do to tag sweetpea?

Use the at symbol @ followed by the username of the person you want to tag, so if I type @ followed by daitheplant (with no space inbetween), then it'll show in the post as daitheplant, and you'll get a notification on your profile that I tagged you in this thread.

I thought it meant to reply to an email by using 'reply' which brings up the letter which is being replied to and adding another reply, instead of starting a new email. I know only what I have picked up on this forum.

I only tag a person if I want them to know that I have made a comment specifically aimed at them that they might not see.
I don't bother most the time because for example this thread, I assume that the people who are interested in it and have replied will see the post that I'm making. People that are not really that interested in the topic might skip this thread or those that have read it but might not feel the need to reply because someone has already said what they would have themselves replied.
I do sometimes tag if it is a busy forum like the dahlias where I think that someone might miss a post that might be relevant to them.
