Melons are a great crop for the g'house. i used to grow Sweetheart which looks quite like your pic. A fairly hardy canteloupe type which can be successfully grown under cloches and even outdoors in some seasons. The biggest problem I found with melons is that everyone wanted some that it didn't leave enough for me.

Lesley, daitheplant was very cheeky last night. However, they are all correct. They look really good and they would be fun to grow.

Didn`t she have a sense of humour then, sweetpea? She did and she also had a 'Magic Garden' so we had to be careful in case she cast a spell on us

I agree but thinking about it we are going off topic on lesley's melon thread so perhaps we should drop this with apologies to lesley. What say you?

No-one else has said they are growing melons. Is anyone growing them besides lesley?I haven't grown them this year but have grown them off and on for many years. Mainly canteloupe varieties but did try watermelon one year which was a resounding failure Melons do need proper training to get the best from them and it also helps if you do a little pollinating unlike cucumbers which need prevention by removing the male flowers. restricting the plant to just four melons helps too as any more would mean reduced size of fruit.
