just come in from my annual vigil watching for meteors from the Perseid shower which peaks on the 12 August every year. A little disappointing as the almost full moon was rising over the nearby rooftops and the cloud cover was increasing but i did see ONE after which I thought sod this for a lark and came in to get warm. It was much chillier out than the usual for this time of year. Sometimes shirtsleeves are ok but even with jacket on it felt decidedly chilly.

Why does it cloud over every time there is an astronomical event? More chance of seeing a super moon in Preston town centre at half past one in the morning.

Some folks in our astronomy group reported seeing quite a few over the past week. I have some problems with neighbours security lights but even when I lived within the M25 area I can remember seeing so many I lost count. If you are interested in what is up there just now then google comet Jacques which is cruising our skies. They reckon it might even become a naked eye object but I've heard that before. Should be visible in binoculars though. Not seen it myself as too much cloud around but fingers crossed maybe soon.
