Point taken daitheplant. I was remembering getting a huge potato sack full and planting these in iron hard ground under trees. Actually, a lot of these were eaten by some sort of wildlife.

Got another couple of shrubs dug out and cut off some buddleia branches overhanging the g'house. Another trailer load for the tip tomorrow.

What are you digging out sweetpea?[/quote] Comfrey, dandelions, aquilegia, cornus, some other shrub not sure what it is but a bit like Lonicera nitida and I still have a couple of Buddleias to take out then level off prior to sowing some grass seed at the edge of the lawn to retain the original circular shape so want to get done before October ideally. Two or three peonies to transplant too though god knows where!

Today was a nightmare. Yesterday I was painting walls in our lounge and today was supposed to do the remaining walls. it wasn't to be. my boy woke me before he left for work to tell me the pond pump was not working. nipped down to check and sure enough no pump and the fish were needing oxygenated. Every time I tried, the powerer blew in the caravan where the fusebox is and also no power to the pump shed and at one point tripped the whole house electrics. Anyway after trying this and that and even with a friend round who got just as puzzled as me I managed to isolate the problem to the actual pump so a new one was ordered hopefully to arrive sometime Thursday. managed to get the power all working again so hopefully get sorted tomorrow. because of all that which took most of the day I got absolutely nothing done in the garden other that water the stuff in g'house. Lost one fish in the process but it was poorly and wasn't really expected to last mch longer. Meanwhile there are at least 21 baby fish new in the last couple of weeks.

Sorry that you had a rubbish day yesterday, hope today is better. Lucky that your son spotted the problem or you could have lost all your fish. Sending some positive thoughts your way!

Phew! Finally got the pond sorted out. The new pump arrived right on schedule and the most awkward bit for me was taking the plug off the old one and connecting to the new one as in a confined space with a dead fish adjacent (it is buried now) and me not fully able to control the small screwdriver. (A leftover from my stroke) Anyway all working although not quite as powerful as the old pump it is doing the job. On a diferent note one of the cats caught a sloworm but it was Maureen dealt with it as I was busy with the pond so not sure if it is alive or dead. Just finished that when the solar panel guy turned up so that was another hour or two discussing the ins and outs of that. Upshot is that we are having solar panels installed so now she wants a tumble drier Got me out of the wall painting once again though. Nothing done in garden again other than usual upkeep stuff but still plenty to do if the weather holds up.

i've enjoyed reading your Blog, Sweetpea. I, too, love the night sky, living in London doesn't afford those beautiful dark skies. When i used to visit my Daughter on the Isle of Wight...lovely night skies and storms too were amazing. I'm going to check out that link for the stellarium. You have an amazing garden

Of course Maureen wants and needs a tumble drier. You live in one of the wettest places in the south.

Of course Maureen wants and needs a tumble drier. You live in one of the wettest places in the south. Wouldn't it have been great if we could have had tumble driers when our children were young, all that time spent pegging out washing, rushing to get it in when it rained, trying to get it dry on the clothes horse or the radiators (when we finally got radiators!), it would have made life a lot easier

Not a lot to report. Yesterday was yucky, rain rain rain so ended up painting indoors again. Today I spent most of it travelling to and from hospital at Swansea so didn't get home until late in the afternoon and had to dash down to g'house as nobody thought to water the plants in there the good news if I can call it that is I won't be travelling to Swansea agin for radiotherapy as it has been arranged for me to go back on active surveillance which means I can walk down to the local hospital 5 minutes away. Weather permitting I will be working in the garden tomorrow although there is still one wall to paint in the house. temp. in g'house overnight went down to 48F. Def getting colder nights.

You make it sound like military exercise, sneaking up on the hospital but seriously, glad that you could at least phrase it as 'good news'. The weather must have been bad if out of choice you were painting again. Look after yourself.

Jim, you'll be amazed how much money the panels can save you though it is a bit disconcerting to see your electricity meter going backwards!! We will get them here as soon as we can afford them
