Perfect Geranium We spent a very nice weekend at Christmas fairs, one at Brodie castle the other at Delgatie castle. They were all decked out in their finery and looked lovely. I got 2 pairs of earrings from a lady I know well called Liz who makes amazing jewellery. I must have 20 amber pieces from her

Lovely Rosie. Is Brodie of Brodie still well? Actually, I just looked him up and he is very dead. I have spoken to him a few times and my dog, Brodie, was named for Brodie Castle. I also had a black and white springer called Brodie years ago. This Brodie was sold to the HR manager at the rig builders in Ardersier and went to Jackson, Dallas. Would you believe, his name was Brodie and he was American.

That's a lot of 'Brodies' Cherry! It was a coincidence with the American chap though wasn't it! I have just posted a Christmas card to my half-sister in Australia today along with a calendar made up of photos I've taken this year of plants & wildlife in 'both' our gardens & places we've visited etc., I didn't think I'd have any decent photos to put on it this year as we've been busy but I scraped a few together. We usually exchange calendars each year - she sends me one with the family & her grandchildren on so that I can see what they've all been up to.

OH has got the cards down from the loft and I have amended the list, as well as ordering my daughter's pressy! Progress has been made in our house. We have labels for the cards on the PC, so it's much easier than laboriously hand-writing the envelopes. My handwriting has deteriorated noticeably, mostly due to having technology, I'm 100% sure.

My handwriting is bad now and it is due to my use of the computer and not having the necessity to write more than a shopping list by hand. It gets better as I go along.

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone !
I started my Christmas shopping today (well I was hoping to start.) I went all the way to Carmarthen and bought nothing at all
I'll give it another try tomorrow, but Beryl will be with me (I went on my own today) so it will be difficult to buy something for her. That will have to wait for another day.
Doing the cards tonight, I think ... some of them anyway.

Where does your sister live SueA? She lives in Mortlake N.S.W. Cherry, I think that's a suburb of Sydney isn't it? She went to Australia as a £10 pom when I was still very young but I remember her coming to see us to say goodbye & she's been back to visit a few times.

I've got our cards down too, I think I'll have to buy a few more, I've got lots but some are a bit small. I popped out today & got a couple for family, they had some with children's names on them & I was surprised I managed to get one with 'Hannah' on for our great-niece. I'm the same Geranium & Cherry in that my handwriting has 'gone off' over recent years, I used to have to write all the business Christmas cards when I worked in an office as I was considered to be the best at wielding a pen, more likely I was the most obliging!

I have only been to Sydney twice SueA, so I don't know it well. I am from Victoria, and my daughters and brother live on Magnetic Island and in Townsville, Nth Queensland. On my last visit, I got the plane from Melbourne to Townsville direct, missing out Sydney.

I had a traumatic trip out yesterday and didn't make it to my destination due to road closures , but I did manage to get a few more small gifts at the small GC, and my Amazon order is en route. They are very good at communication. (I shall try again via the M5 today).

Ninian Brodie died a long time ago but allegedly the son who was next in line heartily objected to the castle being given to the NTS and he lives in a tent somewhere on the grounds.

The Rotary club Santa has just been down our road playing loud Christmas songs from his 'sleigh'. It was fine for the first few minutes, I made my donation, waved to him & closed the door but then had to spend about 15 minutes listening to the music as they tried to reverse down the cul-de-sac & drive back out again between all the parked cars!

That's something I miss being so rural, SueA. We don't even get carol singers. I spent the whole of yesterday writing trillions of cards, and only have the 'local' ones to deal with now. The others are ready to post. Thank goodness that job is done! We're off to the 'treasure trove' shop this morning to get a few more gifts, then that should be it. (I hope!) I spent at least half an hour trying to contact 'The New Scientist' subscription dept. who had the wrong number on their letter. The online renewal wouldn't accept my email address! OH enjoys this magazine, so I get it as part of his pressy each year. He deserves a bit of spoiling - he does so much for me.
