Dear forum,
I only have small plastic greenhouses currently and I am looking to buy later this year or early next year a proper greenhouse for the back of the garden. In a semi shaded spot.
Approx 6 x 8 in size. Mainly for dahlia propagation, raising my own seed and young plants and over wintering some in pots.I will install power lighting and heating into it also want water butts near as well.
Does anyone have any recommendations on brands with good build quality , sturdy but not mega money. Budget is around £700 to £1000 max.
Rhino look good but stretching the budget.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Ps so impressed with Esthers greenhouses immaculate.
All the best
Raymond

Raymond, why not visit your local garden centre and see what they stock? I am a great believer in helping out the local traders. Talk nice to them you can usually get a bit of discount.

For the price you are looking at you can get a 12 foot by 8 foot size, and if you are serious about dahlias then you'll need a big greenhouse. linkand to follow Dai's advice see if one of these is near you link

Cheers scrumpy the size I state is as big as I can fit without ruining some great shrubs.I Will only be doing max 60 per year if more I can supplement with garage and also small greenhouses against fence don't want dahlias taking over entire garden. Much as I love them

Many thanks @daithe scrumpy I am finding this gardening and dahlia business spiralling into a very large bill to get started properly ! I suppose when the big stuff bought once it comes down a bit. Need greenhouse heat mats lights, propagator, water butts, irrigation etc.... Etc... Not forgetting the plants, composts, feeds, fungicides, pesticides mulche It will be worth it though in the end.

You don`t need all that stuff Raymond. Learn to grow Dahlias first. Do a couple of small shows. Then, as you learn what is wanted to win, step things up a bit.

The only things not really needed from that list are propagator, lights, and irrigation.

Nor the heat mats and water butts. Or the mulch. Vaseline would help prevent earwig damage though.

Trust me scrumpy daitheplant on the Kent borders you need some irrigation but found gravity systems online at reasonable prices. Plus with water meters in London need to get the water butts in. I work stupid hours as in weird hours so if I had basic but efficient irrigation would help free up time for other jobs. Had heavy rain last night first rain in nearly 10days. Been hot the last week as well. Some parts of garden dry as a bone Thames water are not cheap. lighting I will need as I will be in the greenhouse early morning and evening during winter. And if I have to wait for greenhouse will need it for the garage. I have done my euromillions tonight so if I win will buy big house with 10 acres grow 800 dahlias and have 3 huge greenhouses am orangery polytunnels with team of full time gardeners. One can dream ! Lol

For lights I've got a single 100 watt bulb. Just about enough light for my 8 foot by 8 foot greenhouse when it's dark outside. I have two 6 foot heat mats, and one soil warming cable bed 8 foot by 2 foot 6. Staging is all home made, wooden, and hinged so it folds flat. Two layers of staging, one just below the eaves(hence look for a greenhouse with high eaves) thus doubling growing space.
