Look who fell asleep in his dinner last night! I went out to check he was alright as he hadn't moved for a while & he was quietly snoring with his eyes tight shut so I sneaked a quick photo. He'd gone about 10 minutes later & has come back tonight so he must have just been full up & dozed off! This little monkey has spent today burying acorns off the massive oak tree on the field behind us in various pots & borders in the garden.

The animals and all wildlife know you are a soft touch SueA. When you start feeding the birds, if you haven't started already, you will hate that squirrel.

The bird feeders are nearer to the house Cherry & he seems to leave them alone, probably because he has a full oak tree to himself , but we had a squirrel at the other house & I even bought a 'squirrel feeder' box for him but he didn't seem to use it much. There are baby oak trees all over the garden in pots & borders here, he must have been busy last year!

Thanks peony & Pansypotter , Pansy you might have some visiting even if you don't see them, I thought we didn't have any at the other house until I spotted some hedgehog 'poo' on the path in the garden & only caught the odd glimpse of them until I found a baby one out in the daylight (took it to the animal sanctuary as it was far too small to hibernate) & here was the same, spotted some poo on the lawn but didn't see one until I put out some food & kept checking for a few nights.

Haven't seen the adult hedgehog for a few weeks now so I hope it's alright but we have had a baby hedgie visiting for the last week or so, hope it's big enough to get through winter, I've been putting out lots of hedgehog food, mealworms & suet treats to try & build it up!

Our baby hedgehog is still coming sweetpea , I'm worried about it being out & about over Halloween & Bonfire night though, hope it stays safe, I always worry about hedgehogs hiding under bonfires thinking they're a good place to hibernate. We've got frogs still as well, the mild wet weather has brought them all out, these two have popped out to see me yesterday & today.

When the security light came on last night at 9.50pm we expected to see one of the hedgehogs but what we saw was an almost full grown fox cub, eating the hedgehog food I don't really want to encourage him so I tapped on the window and he shot off. The hedgehogs turned up shortly after

I would love to see a fox cub in the garden but like you peony I'd be worried about encouraging it, we do see the odd fox on the outskirts of town here but don't have 'urban' foxes visiting gardens/bins to my knowledge, they are lovely though. We thought we might get foxes or rabbits on the field behind us as we're not far from the moss but haven't seen any, think the local dogs must keep them at bay! You never know who's eating your hedgehog food do you though! I know where a lot of ours goes now:-

Nothing goes to waste SueA, I've seen Jackdaws here picking up leftover hedgehog food, not that the hogs usually leave much, but not seen Magpies. It always amazes me how much they can stuff into their beaks, it looks as though your one is feeding a youngster or its going to stash the food somewhere for leaner times

I couldn't believe how much it stuffed in it's mouth peony! I think it was stashing food as you said , I've seen the magpies burying food in the lawn & stuffing it in the ivy 'tree' at the end of the garden. I think it's quite young as there are a few really dopey looking youngsters about. Our hedgehogs aren't as keen on the 'Spike's' hedgehog food as they were on the Tesco type but they do eat all the mealworms I put out.
