According to R4's "Today" program, we are suffering a plague of fruit flies ! The article cited various vox-populi comments along the lines of ".. the fruit flies ate my underpants" etcetera.
Thing is... I haven't seen a single fruit fly in the Roofgarden all summer. Of course... I don't have any actual FRUIT in the garden (or the house) either.
So... what have your experiences been this season ?

we have been plagued with thousands of fruit flies around my damson tree for several years, this year being really bad . my daughter was irritated because they were also all over her car bonnet sitting just under the tree and she hung up those sticky fly things in the branches . I have been told though that it may have been the metallic car bonnet that originally attracted them

We haven't seen fruit flies here but we have had thousands of compost flies in the house, especially in the kitchen! Being as we have a 3m (10ft) wide window I have a lot of plants there. I think that they come from the new, peat free compost. We've always had a few but this year they are almost plague proportions!
We get a few in the living room and they seem attracted to the computer screen, they fly in front of it & in your face, as well as landing on your hands, fingers & arms! This is slightly irritating & I sometimes swat them but most of the time I just wave them away from my face.

Not sure Sue? It’s not promoting anything and the email is legit but an encrypted service from Switzerland? So is used sometimes by spammers etc
