One of my Sorbus sorbaria 'Sem' shrubs seems to be taking a walk - The new shoots are coming up 1) about 6" away from the parent, 2) about the same, and 3) about 18" away. These are the two small shoots 6" away And this is the further one - I was shocked to see how tall it is! Has anyone had this experience with this shrub walking? I know that Sorbus do - but was told that 'little brother' was better behaved. How should I remove the errant shoots please?

How old is yours, Lou? This one went in in June 2009. Hmmm... I didn't check the others! As you say, it's too dark now.

I gave Lou hers and the main parent it came from was always sending up new plants. Esther had one too.

Mine also did this Geranium but it was in a pot, it's now been planted in the garden, shall have to have a look tomorrow to see if there's any babies. Why carn't you plant the babies else where in the garden.

I don't know of any way to stop the suckers from coming up, they'll be all over the immediate vicinity. I just kept pulling them off from the base area.

If it's not tipping it down again tomorrow, I'll have a dig around. Obviously I'll pot them up if they do have roots! ( More plants for the plant stall. )
