Go for miniatures and smalls in that space. 12 plants, a double row of 6. I'd have Mary's Jomanda and Ryecroft Jan at the back, Barbarry Pip and Oakwood Goldcrest at the front. Thanks scrumpy will take a look at those!

Just put my 2nd order in with halls of heddon, after the 1st went in early to get the 10% discount...33 different varieties to see the type that I really like and that grow well for me on the allotment!... Will be a few years before I can match or even come close to the beauties I see posted on here but I love a challenge! Also ordered a few tubers to get some of my own cuttings going.

That is a lot of varieties, to choose from. When you grew dahlia's before did you show them ?

Tel your recommended "a plantsman's guide to dahlias" by philip damp - a very good and easy to follow book for beginners (yes i have finished reading it already lol) and the "world of dahlias" by Keith Hammett, in memory of mum and dad because I remember it from my youth

I have decided eventually I would like a dahlia with names that link to all the members of my family. Have found one with our street name included and one with my brothers name for future purchases but struggling with other family members but this is what I love about gardening, doing research during the winter ready for the warmer weather. So if this years growings do well this is my plan for 2016. Happy Days

I am trying to pick a collerette and I am sure that one of the reasons why I am tempted to grow Teesbrooke Audrey is the name (together with the fact that purple is my favourite colour.)
