Well today when I haven't been doing stuff with the girls or uploading photos of my Dad's seedlings - I've started sorting out my seedlings. The pretty ones I've put in the front garden but the others are still in the back garden. Early days yet but gut feeling nothing is going to be higher than a 'pretty'. That's ok because who knows for next year...

'The Seedling Times' Time for another update.
D5 - photo taken by Pirate, I like the way that it is not quite centred. Looks similar sort of think as Brenda T but not growing it this year. I wasn't happy with the centres that mine had - maybe it will look 'softer' - n.b. I know what I mean. I was hoping that it would have a more distinctively different to Brenda T. Look forward to talking to my Dad about it. I am sure he will have something succent to say about it.
My first of my Edwin's Sunset waterlily seeding and it's a RED! Yay!
Took photo of young Kilburn Glow on the left and Taratahi Ruby to compare. My seedling is a deeper darker red. Don't know what I've done to spoil them with those white marks but :-/oh well, looking forward to seeing it full size.
I have other photos of other seedlings and a nice deep dark purple on its way but I am going to leave it there for now on my seedling front because I have news. A bit of a biggie (I think anyway.)

I've been growing scrumpy's Greenways Zoe and it has some petals sporting. Only a few but it is a big surprise. Certainly not what I expected. I wonder what will happen next.

The girls received a pressie through the post this weekend. All tucked up in bed for his (or her ) journey through the post. They took turns a pod at a time - I was asked "What is the white stuff?" err I don't really know, pollen?
Searching the pods and discovering 100s "No Millions!" (I have just been told)
Action shot of the sowing and then all covered in a layer of vermiculite. There was a lot of discussion / debate as I sent them off to find a suitable place for them to go. Fingers very much crossed that they grow. The girls can't imagine a plant taking 3 years to grow. It blew their minds just how many tiny seeds that you got out of each pod. They are really grateful - Thank You Cherry.

Lovely photos. Don't forget to cover them with netting, 'j'cloths or an old tea-towel. I wrap my shallow plant pots in Indian dinner bags which my son brought back after working in India. They are like 'j'cloths and let the rain in. They keep the pot damp too.

Mummy had to smile through Gritted Teeth when she saw this
and then gently suggest that the daughter (who thought that this was a brilliant idea / game with big happy sunny smile on her face) please don't do that again..... I don't think that my Dad would have reacted in the same way. p.s. The insect in the picture doesn't help either.

Tea sneezed on monitor, keyboard, table, partition (I'm at work) and at least one work colleague. Fortunately, she was asleep, so I don't think she noticed ?

Ah, see that you are still a light weight on your beverage of choice... Don't ever change Roofy. You crack me up. Well maybe you can change your clothes when they get grubby or whiffy or when you just fancy a change.. Come to think about it, after an afternoon slaving away on your Roof top wonderland - maybe you'll really need to change then.

My Dad came round yesterday and we were looking at my dahlias and I was asking for advice side shoots or no side shoots etc. etc. We came to my seedlings and he asked me which was which etc. and I told him that one is mine and that one is from you. I'd asked if I could grow one of his seedlings this year the one with the really stricking yellow and red contrast with yellow tips. My Dad took one look at it and said that that wasn't 2013 number 23 bent down and pulled up the label. In actual fact it was number 23 but he had given me 2014 number 23, and not 2013 number 23. Bit of an oops factor 10. Dad told me that it would be a ball dahlia slight difference. I've looked it up and this is what I should have coming:
I did mention that it might be a good idea if he started naming them rather than sticking to the numbers but well,.......
Maybe one day he will be happy enough to. Fingers crossed big time on that one!
I had put number 23 up near Spanish dancer because I was hoping that it my cross with it. Still quite near my poms and ball dahlias. Whatever happens I am looking forward to next year's seedlings already. Happy Days.

The penny has dropped, 2014 number 23 is this one.
I know for a fact if given the choice of my Dad would have picked this one rather than the bright red and yellow, that I had originally requested because he thinks that it is a superior bloom. So no pressure there then.

We went out last night after HH came home. Went to the cinema to see The Minions film which was really good (n.b. If anyone hasn't been yet and is planning on going stay till the very end of the credits - or miss one of the best bits. (Everyone else had gone home but we waited and was glad that we did stay, although truth be told erm. secretly felt a tiny bit smug that we had stayed and they had all missed it.)
Collected a pizza hut take away and went home - straight after dinner - garden cloggs back on, miners style head torch on and off I went down the garden. With two helpers that wanted to come to. It was raining a bit, so I sent them back in to get their coats on and extra torches for themselves. Now HH had been very hopeful that as it was raining that I wouldn't want to go out and water but I went out with string and scissors to do some extra plant tying.
I don't know what it is about me in the rain, or me in the dark in the rain but I love it. The girls really enjoyed it to - I think it was like an adventure for them.
Glad I did because it rained a lot last night and everything wet outside.
Only 1 noticable casulty - a Peach Delight - the weight of it's wet head made it buckle over. I am sure that this has happened before. Peach Delight is pretty. Full size I think it is stunning but it is next to Eastwood Moonlight, so it has to be stunning to get picked.
A bit of a no-brainer that one.

I have a mystery bloom - looking forward to the surprise.
My guess it isn't going to red. p.s. The leaf that is in the way, has now been moved back a bit.

'The Seedling Times' Look what I discovered in garden this morning:
Stunning colour - if only it is a decent bloom to match.
