If one of the tubers were to come off the clump (which they do from time to time) and it doesn`t have an "eye" or old flower stem attached then it will not produce flowers.

A worrying thought Moonlight. Mind you - these aren't for me - they are for my Mum, who asked me to 'over-winter' them for next spring. It IS going to be a very busy Jan-April for me, as in addition to the Onions, I'm also on a promise to grow bedding-type plants for my Sisters two "moon" areas, as well as for a couple of 'gaps' in the front garden, plus perhaps some odds and ends for the Parents. In addition, I need some polinator-attractor-type plants for the roofgarden. I've got the basics of a plan for how I'm going to accomplish all of this. Well... at least.. some vague ideas. Perhaps the term "plan" is over-egging it. More on this as it firms up.

I ought to do mine but I tend to get carried away with it or fall asleep (what happens is that realise after I wake up that it is gone 2 in the morning.)

Well, I've made LOTS of plans before. I just... never actually implemented them. Either that, or they turned out to be unrealistic. (although I still have hopes for the Ski Lift to the Pointless Chimney, and turning the Damp Patch into a water feature).

Ummm... OK... I can do that daitheplant. Where do I get that from, and how do I use it ? Would I still need to do that if I put them in dry soil in an indoors/sheltered plantpot ? **Edit*** Ah... OK... I can get the stuff on Ebay, and perhaps even in B+Q's. I'll be going there thisafternoon....

Roofus, as the Dahlias are being overwintered for your mother, may I suggest you treat them with some yellow sulphur dust to prevent rotting? How does that work, Dai? Does the sulphur mix with the salts in the dahlia tubers and form a variant of sodium metabisulphite, which is a liquid preservative?
If so, mind the vapours Roofy, especially in a confined space, as it makes me sneeze, but can start asthmatic attacks with some.

Well, in that case, I'm going to argue the point a gainst the collective Dahlia community. <checks life insurance policies> Actually, it might be slightly less troublesome in the long term to just write threatening terrorist letters to Tamir Pardo . Sulphur it is

Once the tubers have dried Roofus just dust them with the sulphur. You can get yellow, or green, sulphur from any garden centre. Di, as the sulphur isn`t used until the tubers have dried, there isn`t a problem.

No Sulpher yet, but I'll have it by the weekend, and some photographs before that. In the interim, a quick update on the Weekend. Break on Through to the Other Side
(music title courtesy of Jim Morrison and The Doors). Not much work done on the Roofgarden... a little bit of tidying up and stuff. But MAJOR progress at my Sisters, if only symbollicly. We've been trying to bring the Left-hand Orchard under control. (So called because it has two apple trees). It is a rectangular soil bed around 15' wide and perhaps 30' deep. Untill a few weeks ago, it was a jungle of brambles and waist-high grasses. At around 11:30 on Saturday, after three weekend sessions, I finally cut through to the back wall. It still needs the roots digging out (which is the bigger job, in truth), but for the first time you can stand in the Lower Patio, and actually SEE the back wall, along with the Distant Wooden Chair. We even managed to uncover the Forgotten Central Path, which has remained hidden for around 2-3 years. A symbollic victory perhaps, but a welcome one ! You may call me Mr SmugGardener !

Does the Forgotten Path lead the the Distant Wooden Chair, or something more exciting?
