Hello, I have flower seedlings growing in my greenhouse in a heated dome. Marigolds, pansies, petunias, lobelia and alysum. The Alysum seedlings are tall, weak, falling over and dying while the lobelia seems to be on pause. I wonder do I need to install lights over them even though the greenhouse gets daylight on all sides. Also when can I take them off the heat, My greenhouse read 3.5oC last night. I would really appreciate all the advice I can get.

Turn the heat off and remove the dome, in the evening replace the dome but leave the heat off. Welcome to the site, by the way.

Hello I just see you reply. This morning I removed the dome and reduced the bottom heat. Thank you for the welcome.

Too much heat will make the seedlings grow too fast, also not enough like can make them grow lanky. Welcome from me too sunshine

Hi there Sunshine, and welcome. I'm a greenhouse gardener as well. I think I've suffered in the past from what you are experiencing (though with different plant types).
I suspect that SOME plant types get 'overcooked' in a greenhouse, even without electric heating, and "bolt". Others seem to need it. Why is gardening so complicated ?
I just stuff soil in a pot, plonk the seed in, water it, then hit it with a stick. If it doesn't germinate, or if it bolts, try using a bigger stick ?
