our next door neightbours dog discovered MY hedgehog in his garden late last night he was barking like mad and wedged under a tree the dog I mean. We could get neither away . finally the dog gave up and the hedge hog ran for cover under the shed . I`m just glad he`s still alive as we had to stop putting out food in the winter due to a sighting of a large rat.
love the hedgehog house peony

Glad he/she's still around ladybird , it will have been fine not putting out food in winter as it would probably have been hibernating between about November & March.

You just reminded me to check hedgehog hotel to see if it was actually used over winter. The hedgehog has been seen a few times under the fatball feeder where all the bits fall.

I haven't seen our hedgehog for about a week but it must still be visiting as there was what looked like hedgehog poo on the lawn this morning & the food is still going. Edit:- Just spotted the hedgehog, shone the torch out of the back window & one is there tucking in to the food.

Whilst helping parents cut back herbaceous in their garden this morning (before the rain set in) I came across this curious perfectly formed mound of leaves and Cranesbill stems. I carefully lifted the top off like a lid expecting to see baby mice. It was a hedgehog hibernating. It moved slightly so is definitely alive. I put the 'lid' carefully back on and left it in peace.

You should have stuck a little 'do not disturb' sign next to it Fractal! It'll probably waking up properly soon with the weather being quite mild.

When Maureen went out to get one of the cats in she saw a hedgehog on the top lawn which I had earlier cut the grass. naturally she then had to come in and sort out some food for it. What with cats, birds fish and now hedgehogs no wonder I'm skint.

One of the hedgehogs has reappeared here as well now, I saw some 'poo' on the patio yesterday morning & then saw the little culprit last night & caught some pics. on the night camera.

they know you'll look after them I found some poo in the top border yesterday, so I'm wondering if they will come back, haven't seen them for a while now since the badger appeared in the garden, that seems long gone now so fingers crossed

Aww, that's lovely lesley, it looks quite small doesn't it, we had one about the same size snuffling about on the patio the other night, the food's half way down the lawn though so I think it had been checking the borders for slugs & snails.

aren't they lovely to see I'm still getting evidence that one is visiting the garden but I haven't got to see it yet SueA is the hedgehog food worth putting down if the cats are around, I can't put cat food down as it would attract far too many of them

I only put the hard biscuit type food down grindle & peanuts, mealworms, suet nibbles which all the bird/animal visitors eat & cats do eat ALL of that - I've seen them on the infrared camera, if I put out the soft meaty food it would be gone as soon as I put it down with all the cats that come through here. I have seen the hedgehogs eating sitting beside a cat several times so they seem to get on O.K. I think it was peony on here who had a good little hedgehog feeding station which was a a box with a hedgehog-sized hole in it & the dish of food inside so that only a hedgehog could get to it, one of those little wicker type hedgehog houses would work but would probably need to be weighted down to stop cats just pushing it off. I've thought about trying that but not sure where to put it, no good on the lawn as it would have to keep being moved to avoid a bare patch so I'd have to find somewhere at the back of the garden.

it seems that no food is safe with all the cats around then I might look at the feeding station and see, but I think Dylan would easily move one
