Do Lettuce seeds go out of date quickly? I suspect they might because I have some which have not germinated when all around are growing away well, showing that the temperature was right.
Another question. Does anyone know the name of the tight curly lettuce which is called by a number? It is an English variety and I have had success with this one. Otherwise, your recommendation of a tight curly lettuce would be good.

Once the foil packet has been opened Cherry most seeds go out of date. Are you talking about iceberg or cos lettuce?

It is a lettuce I bought in France a few years ago called Reine de Glace I think. It is the tight curly sort and looks beautiful in the garden as well as tasting good.

The name is right, but mine was definitely curlier with no closed head. Thanks for that Dai. They are a good price and delivery is cheaper than most too. I will have a look at their other seeds too. I could get the engineer to send a packet. He phones every day from France. I just might do this and I will send you some seeds too if you want to give them a try.
