As everyone here obviously uses a computer and some are a bit more techie than others eg me I thought I might seek some info. OH wants a laptop which she can use in any room in the house so wi fi comes to mind. (is that the right term?) I have a router and the code so what do I have to do next? Do you need a particular type of laptop or software installed? Any help gratefully received.

Hi Sweetpea - I think you're almost there. I do exactly that, but had trouble getting a signal in our house due to the thick walls. I have to have an additional gizmo which plugs into the mains - it's an added signal booster.
Sorry I can't help with how it was set up - our computer man did it for us. I'm sure there must be another member who can help more.

They are just about all wifi enabled when you buy them now Sweetpea, when setting the laptop up and you click on internet access or whatever the manufacturers version is...it well then search for available networks, it should find yours and then you will need to put your code in...it should remember it after that

I will still have to check with the guy as it will be a 2nd hand machine. His ones are all around £130.00 so a bit cheaper than new. I got the one I'm using now off him for £130.00 Not a laptop though. very happy with it.

Well, if you do get problems with the signal strength, the gizmo I have wasn't expensive and it sorted the problem of thick walls.

My son put a load of electronic gear on a crossbeam in the attic and a hub so that anyone in the caravan can use their laptop.
