I have not heard of this singer, so I played a recording of hers from 1905 and there was one by Dame Nellie Melba of the same song, same year. Interesting! Her most famous song was apparently Home Sweet Home. They say that when she sang in her opera house at Craig Y Nos, her voice could be heard in Swansea almost 30 miles away ! (I don't think it's true, but she did hold operas there) and they held operas there every summer until recently.
My dad was from near Craig Y Nos, and I remember my Gran telling me that when she was a little girl, Madam Patti gave all the children in the village a pencil to commemorate something (I can't remember what she said it was) ... and she still had the pencil. She showed it to me. I don't know what happened to it. My aunt probably threw it away

Not far from here are the ruins of an old Abbey, near a lake by a tiny village. It's quite pretty and I thought I'd show some photos of it that I took last week. We go up there quite often, since it is only about 13 miles away, and a pretty drive along a country road.
It was a former monastery for monks of the "Order of White Canons" and was founded by Rhys ap Grufudd (Lord Rhys) in 1184.
Next to the ruins is the church of St Michael, and there are nice views of the lake from the churchyard.

It looks a lovely peaceful place Eli, nice spot to be buried in! You're lucky to have such beautiful areas so close to you, it reminds me a bit of Valle Crucis Abbey at Llangollen which we've been to a couple of times, I think it's a similar era ruin but there is more of it still standing.
