My sister has been badly stung by one of these beasties today. She had to go to the hospital for treatment and has to be watched to see how far the venom will travel through her. Keep an eye out, they sounds nasty. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/4727271.stm

Hope she's ok Rosie. I read something last week about Asian wasps (I think it was) that were said to be particularly nasty that may be on the way here from France where they'd somehow arrived.
I've had a lot of flying ants in the lawn this year too, which I've not seen before. Most days this summer, I've had a couple of mounds to flatten where they've come tunnelling out of the ground.

Luckily it's probably too cold round here for them, hope your sister gets over it quickly Rosie.

Your poor sister Rosie. I hope she gets over it ok. We have a football shaped old wasp nest in the attic. It is actually bigger than a football, and we came home from a weekend away to find the house full of wasps. I hate them. Two years ago, we had a plague of hornets, but I haven't seen them this year.

Margy also got stung by an ordinary wasp on her leg. They don't seem to like my sister just now. I'll be speaking to her today to see how she is doing.

My dad was a hospital case if he got stung. Now is the time when they get ratty, as sugar is more scarce or the fruits have fermented, and they get drunk.
Six years working in a jam and honey factory, and I wasn't stung once, as they were well fed! lol They were only outside where the fruit pulps were kept.

not sure if it is any help but as kids we put vinegar on wasp stings. Well, the dinner lady at school did that. we had a wasp nest in the playground and of course we had to dare each other to go through the steady stream of wasps going to and fro and naturally got loads of stings. hope your sis is on the mend rosie.
