Double netting, mmm, I remember a fish farm lost a load of fish when the crafty Herons all stood in the same place which weighed down the netting, then helped themselves.

The netting on our pond didn't stop the heron either. It would land on the lengths of wood which kept the netting above the water and fish through the netting.
The heron, deer and moles are the reason I garden for wildlife, if you cant beat them, join them. ;D

As PB says they're smarter than you think, they also seem to know when not threatened. Today I walked the river meadows and came within stone-throwing distance of two Herons, even the dogs didn't worry them.

We get a heron in the garden - he sits on the wall overlooking the stream and then dives in. Sometimes we get an egret, too - he's much shier and we just catch a glimpse as he flies away.
