They vary but the slug one was very mild yet some of the small slim ones are hotter than hell

They look Hot!!!! I managed to keep Butch alive for 3 years I think, he got a large aphid attack and it just weakened the plant so I dumped it

This was my Chilli crop. Not such a wide variety as Steves. I only have Chilli Cayenne which I've found to be reliable outdoors. I super dry them on newspaper next to the boiler then shred them up for chilli flakes which keep a long long time. Only half the crop of last year due to indifferent weather. Shredding up dried chillis fills the air with chilli dust, I was coughing and sneezing even with a towel over my face Never bother trying to save chiili plants, I treat them as annuals and start afresh from seed every year.

I've never tried that @davidv but I think i will now, I have made my own chilli sauce, blending them but diluting them down a bit with a tin of tomato's

Hi, when you want to make the flakes is it simply finely slice the chilli's then dry further or have I missed something? Thanks

Hi Cat, I pick the chillis as late as I dare leave them then put them on newspaper in the airing cupboard next to the boiler. Many were actually green but they ripen together then shrivel up in there. After 6 weeks they were as dry as they could ever be. (1st pic) I snipped off the stalks with scissors then put all the chillis in the food processer. A few short bursts and they are done. No deseeding or hand chopping or further drying necessary! I pour the lot into clean dry jam jars. Job done! I still have a jar left from last year in perfect condition.

Has to be hot. Shouldn't be too hard to do a piripiri sauce or similar. I like that idea....
