Will have to have a better system of labelling on my tubers as half of the plants are lab led wrong and the other half the names have rubbed off

Well Ian, they're finally on. My first ever effort at building covers has come to fruitions . All I need now is to get the blooms up to size and perfect for Saturday and I'll be a happy bunny. Didn't appreciate just how hard moving a humungus sheet of polythene on a slightly windy day can be, but we got there in the end . What do you think??

Thanks Cat, was relieved to get to the allotment this morning to find it still on and in place. I think I've got it on just in time, rain and wind due on Friday, typical, the day before the first show!!!! See on the NDS facebook page you've got a bit of a dilemma coming up this weekend. Hope everything goes okay, and you and Che carry on the winning streak. Off to the 50th anniversary show at the Sandy horticultural society on Saturday, it's a bit early, but I'll take what I have .
Good luck to everybody show this weekend.....

looks the Bo33oc3s JD isn't it great working under the covers when it is raining. Good luck my friend at the show. Just one thing about your covers I hope there is enough wind movement under them if not you may have to consider a way of lifting the side plastic if and when required, maybe another baton further up the sides. I have netting on the bottom meter of my tunnel cover.

Cheers Ian, and your so right about working under covers when it rains. Up early this morning to cut for tomorrow with the rain pouring down, lovely!!!! On the covers, they come down to a metre from the ground, then at the moment I've left it open to the breeze. No netting as yet, plus both ends are wide open, so there's plenty of air flowing through.
Saw the photos this morning, my friend you've done a magnificent job with the stand. After the pictures you sent me a while back, I've been really looking forward to the finished article, and you and your helpers from the old folks home (Sorry Jack!) certainly didn't disappoint. Well done you deserve all the accolades and praise.......Brilliant .
Now, a question. As you know this is my first year growing Oakwood Goldcrest, so, the back petals on my blooms seem to be discolouring, a slightly off yellow colour. They've had two chempak 4 feeds, and an Epsom salt feed, so not sure if that's what happens naturally, or I'm doing something wrong.
Any helps would be gratefully received

Jd it may be that you have given the feed and Epsom salts a little late for those blooms. You will probably find the next will be better. Well done on you seven prizes today 3firsts 3seconds and 1 third a fantastic result JD

Good luck to everyone showing this weekend johndoe etc. It has been particularly interesting for us getting everything ready for our NDS affiliated show- checking everything twice, three times, and four! So pleased we did though - we had about a third of blooms blow once put in water and became oversized so we had to dash out and cut more, we found 3 microsized caterpillars from the influx of butterflies having a good munch so they have been dealt with. The mary's Jomanda have lost colour due to the rain (covers are a future dream ) so they are not being entered. We saw pictures of those already staged this afternoon - and started having palpatations!! lol It is Che this time that has remained calm while I have become the headless chicken. Now I am going to turn off the computer, switch off the tablet and silence the mobile phone. Sleep is calling. Tomorrow is another show and we're ready! what will be will be and we hope to learn as much as possible from like minded people as well as meet up with a few known folk. #happydays

Good luck to you and Che, Cat. Bring home those red cards . Thanks Ian for the advice, have been up the allotment this morning and took a close look at the backs of the later Oakwood Goldcrest's, and they seem to be keeping their colour better, so at least I'm on the right track. Thank you for your help and support, it's very much appreciated. Now, time for some show pictures from the Sandy show yesterday, try to keep awake at the back there........!!!!
Sorry about the blurry picture, but better half took this one....Honest. Miniature dec, Marston Karen
Small semi cactus, Oakwood Goldcrest Top to bottom. Blyton Everest, Mary's Jomanda and Ryecroft Pixie
My poor vase of Blyton Softer Gleam, but they were the only 3 I had!!!! And the winner of best display, by a cracking chap, Roger Day, well deserved I must say.

Well, all cut and tied, ready for the long early morning trip to Kenilworth, for The Midlands show. Sadly, my time with the Montague Cup(best vase in novice at the National), and The Don Brawn Trophy(best vase in the novices at the Midlands), has come to an end. Both cups going back to be won by another lucky newcomer. For me, it's now a step up into the intermediate classes. Enter all five intermediate classes tomorrow, and a couple of big boy classes . Just hope that when I get up at 3.30 tomorrow morning, nothing has blown, or gone south!!! Looking forward to meeting up with friends and fellow dahlia nuts. Good luck to everybody showing over the bank holiday.
