Had a good day today at the Stevenage Garden & Allotment Association autumn show. 4 firsts, 1 second, and 3 thirds. After missing the National, it cheered me no end . Also met another new shower in Kevin Moores, so had a good chat with him. Plus a show man from a few years ago, who started growing again on a small scale, John Blain. Nice chap.
Got a first with Blyton Everest A first for Blyton Softer Gleam Runner up in 3 vase championship with, Oakwood Goldcrest, Blyton Softer Gleam and Barbarry Vulcan.

Well done johndoe I particularly like the B Everest and softer gleam. Vulcan is smashing colour Thanks Cat. I've really enjoyed grow Everest this year, just need to get it slightly bigger next year. Matching is not as difficult as I'd thought it would be and the centres stay nice and tight for a long time. If you want to try it next year, let me know and I'll send you a tuber if you want . Vulcan is another I'll grow again next year, but under cover. Some of the blooms marked in the rain, and as you say, a lovely rich colour.

Congrats johndoe great exhibits. Met kevin at the national great guy . All the best for the rest of the season. Cheers Raymond, it was good to have a few good growers exhibiting. I think Kevin is going to be a great exhibitor in the future, especially with Mr Gillam taking him under his wing .
Got the last show on Friday, Harrogate. Can't wait, stewarding again, the best way to learn about dahlia showing.
And all the best to you to.

Raymond I was so pleased to read of your success with Tel 's Garden Friends. It's a wonderful legacy for us all to remember him by. Was Dave Spencer curious to know more about it?
Good Luck to everyone showing at Harrogate

Does anyone know of a horticultural show this coming weekend? Not too far from West Manchester (Lancashire north Cheshire might be ok) I've been cutting loads of really nice blooms destined for home. Last year I went to a little show mid Sept at Rixton near warrington but it's cancelled this time sadly.

I am rather confused between Ruskin Myra and Rycroft Zoe so I hope that some of you can help me sort them out. I have some plants labelled Ruskin Myra and some labelled Rycroft Zoe and I can hardly tell the difference between the flowers. I grew them all from cuttings. A local friend gave me the tubers of Ruskin Myra and Raymond sent me the Zoe. I have grown Zoe before because Scrumpy sent me some, two or three years ago but I lost that stock. These flowers look very similar to those I grew then. I have not grown Ruskin Myra before. Are these varieties so much alike or have I got them mixed up.? The only slight difference I can see is that those labelled Zoe are VERY slightly darker. I am going to show you pictures of them now.
