Many members have greenhouses, polytunnels, growhouses and the like. I thought it might be kinda fun to have one thread where we could all post pictures of our pride and joys. They are often so varied - both in the type of plants grown and the layout and equipment/gadgets etcetera - that I've ALWAYS found it fascinating when people post pictures of them. Well, I'll set the ball rolling: here are some pictures of my current Polytunnel. If anyone is interested in the past manifestations, you can read my 2015 diary You can click on the pictures to see a larger version. (I wish my polytunnel had this feature... lol.... ) | It's a 3m long (10'), 2m wide (6') polytunnel. Not big by most gardeners standards, but then.. I'm only a small gardener, so it fits me fine
I've got electricity plumbed in (by the simple method of dangling an extension cable out of a small window in my flat), with lights, heating (fan heater), radio, fondue set etcetera... which is handy.
| |
The left-hand side is mostly "work area", with a 5' long workbench with storage space below. It's currently winter, so at the end of the bench is my soil reclamation plastic box, sitting on some baking trays. This is for drying out all the soil recovered from my various plantpots ready for re-use. (the box has a little heater wire inside) Being a tarmac roofgarden, there are no actual soil beds - everything is in pots and troughs)
Underneath is my seedling compost box, the rubbish bin, plus a home-made propagator (more heater wire).
As we get further towards Spring, I suspect the seedling trays will start imposing into this area, and my "workbench" space will get smaller and smaller.
| |
Currently this is my 'main' seedling area, with general 'dry storage' underneath. The large gravel trays underneath the plantpots also has a heater wire; not hot enough to germinate, but just a gentle warmth to help things along. (around 7-10 degrees, as mandated by the good Herr Doktor Hessayen )
| |
This standing unit wasn't planned.. it just 'happened'.. but it is useful for either smaller seed trays or - as in this case - a place to over-winter some plants.
| | This "bridge" was recycled from an old table. I may fit it with an improvised heating wire as well, as it seems a handy area to plonk seed trays on (as here). It also fulfills a MUCH more important purpose: that of keeping the Comfy Chair nice and dry ! |
Well, thats it at the moment. I guess that - as we move towards Spring this may change around a bit. The Soil Bins might go, and the bakers trays used for yet MORE seed trays. Or possibly a kettle ?

I wish I had that clink to enlarge feature in my gardening too lol, I wouldn't mind a fondue set in mine either lol, and we all need a comfy chair Kettle definitely sounds like a plan, and a wee camping gas stove I'll post a pic of my WEE TINY 'greenhouse' thingy when I get it sorted (at the weekend hopefully)

Wow... you extended it yourself ? That's impressive grindle. You must tell us the story behind that ? I think its very workmanlike. I particularly like those small wooden standing units. (the pale-coloured wooden ones). Your work surface also looks VERY deep ! That is the vertical frame-thingy on the right of the bottom photograph ? I'm assuming that's bubblewrap insulation ? How do you make it stick to the contours of the greenhouse like that ? My attempt in the polytunnel sags down. (I may take a photograph to show you). Would it be possible to take some wider-angle photo's to compliment the close-ups ? ?

you're right KC those are the shoe racks waiting to become shelves The wooden shelves are ones I used to have in the house as storage similar to these only they had 4 shelves which I halved, then the top is some leftover worktop I had laying around. I extended it by using the metpost post holders and posts then just put clear corrugated plastic on to make the walls and roof. The bubble wrap is held on with double sided tape first to the greenhouse then layed the wrap over it, on the other side I just used pins in the wood posts. I'll try and get a better picture with the camera on Friday, I'll be out most of tomorrow Now I've finally finished decorating and put the new curtain rail up I just might be able to find some time to get in there and get those shelves up

Those shoe racks do look very useful grindle , better than my 'bits of old wood balanced on bricks' temporary shelving!
