Me neither, dirty great beasties ploutering through your garden would cause a lot of damage My brother George has got a good few meteors in his collection I guess it puts the odd slug into perspective ! "Boss... there's a Dinosaur in the Courgette Patch" "Oh BLAST... right... get the spears and the nets. And.. what SORT of Dinosaur ? " "It's a Brontasaurus, Boss". "Ah. OK. Ummm... do we have any courgette seeds left ? "

Duh! Missed that. Wish i had seen it. Lucky rosie I saw a shooting star looking northwards in the early hours od Thursday morning. I was star gazing after the bright star lit sky woke me up, and it was a fast mover all right. I see more north- directions stars than I used to, since they removed the main road lights last year.

Oo lovely dianthus , I've only seen 2 shooting stars in my life, better than none though Seen the Aurora twice too I would have thought you'd have seen a lot of the aurora recently, as there has been a lot of solar flare activity. They were seeing it as far south as Anglesey a few weeks ago.
12th - 14th August is a good time to look for shooting stars as the Leonidis meteor showers are happening then.

Sorry dianthus but the 12th August is the peak for the PERSEIDS where the radiant is in the constellation of Perseus. Usually a good time to look for meteors as it is not too cold at that time and you can usually spot anything from one or two to several dozen if you are lucky

That's a shame, rosie
These natural phenomena are some of life's best moments. They can certainly make me feel humble and give me a sense of wonderment at how beautiful Nature can be.
I had to keep getting up to look at the red moon we had a few months back, too

About 25ml from here is a Dark Skies area where they get a fantastic display of stars.... I can't get over there, but would love to, sometime, if I could.

My sister Margy goes up to Kielder Forest with a start gazing group she belongs too, gets lovely dark skies there (she lives in Newcastle).
