The 'Upside down' rainbows do happen, just not at 11am on April 1st 
I remember the spaghetti trees and many years back on Westward TV they asked for volunteers to turn up with paintbrushes to paint the waste tips of china clay in Cornwall. Loads turned up to collect their green paint.
also recall a spoof on radio which even had me wondering. It was about scientists and other people being sent to mars as there was a huge asteroid on collision course with the earth and they were gathering people with certain skills to colonise a 'new earth'
