I'm beginning to get into the garden on a regular basis, in the run-up to retirement.
We have a rock garden in the front with a patio garden at the back, which was inspired by my reluctance to mow in the hay fever season! The front is self-maintaining, bar trimming and weeding, so our real focus is on the patio garden. There is a north-facing border in front of a fence, so that will need some thought as to what to plant there, other than a Mexican orange blossom that does well.
Other than that, there are a number of pots and containers as you would expect.
Finally, two ideas we're thinking of: (1) woodland wildflower seeds in a shady part of the north-facing border, and (2) raised beds to grow veg and herbs.
I look forward to learning a lot from you all, as my knowledge of gardening is pretty basic.
Cheers, Chris

Welcome chrism you'll' learn lots on here all you have to do is ask. If you google plants for north facing or Pinterest site you'll find plenty photos on the latter. It really depends on your taste in plants. Some I like are...some Hosta's, Anemones, some Ferns, Alchemilla mollis, Some hardy Geraniums, Thalictrum, Hydrangea's and foxgloves I'm sure some others will name some they they like too. Happy Gardening!

Hi all. Thanks for your replies! So far, I picked up some useful tips, including best not forget the daisies!!
We also have a low brick wall dividing one part of the patio from the other. The plan is to cover it with a range of rocks to create a natural dry wall, planted with various types including heathers.
Thanks again. Chris
