so looking forward to getting outside, which at the moment is impossible as it's just too wet to do anything practical

Hello folks a day that provided sunshine, cold winds, rain and hail in some areas locally moved and planted out more herbaceous. disappointed to see pots of blue anemone blanda had rotted out. Just a few intact. It could be because I soaked the corms before sowing, something I dont usually do

We had a big debate about soaking anemone corms a while ago on here vc, lots of people don't but I'm one who does as it tells you to on the instructions which arrive if you buy them online & they always look very hard & dry to me, I just soak them overnight in warm water so that they swell up nicely. It probably hasn't helped with all the rain we've had this winter though so that might be why yours have rotted especially if the pots have got waterlogged, if they've grown for you in the past without soaking them then I'd stick to that.

Hiya Sue. Think you are spot on about the rain and waterlogged pots. Rain seems to be a constant esp since autumn. ironically, if I hadnt soaked the corms the rain would have been enough anyway this year
