Bought 2 last May Little Rev and Taz Red. Both doing well until the late winter. When we had the thaw both were still green , now they are brown and very dead looking But is all lost for them or will they regrow from the roots? I dont want to throw them just yet but I could replace them or get something a bit hardier.

I have (had) 2, can't remember varieties...the one in the ground has gone to the garden in the sky ...the one in a pot is looking very tatty, but I live in hope

I have grown Dianella tasmanica Tas Red, thinking that as this one came from Tasmania it must be OK, but I lost it last winter. It looked alright for a long time, but finally gave up the ghost.

so not hardy as suggested then I suppose its the fact we have had so many milder winters that have lulled us into false hope. I 'll leave them until June then, if they are dead I'll chuck them then.

I think this is true, I'm going for reliable hardy plants to replace lost ones in future, anything that is borderline will be grown in containers to take under cover in the future

I made up my mind after losing the Hedychiums, all five of them. However, hardier ones are being bred. If you have a heated greenhouse it is alright, but that is a step too far for my husband.

Sadly I lost my Dianella in a large tub two winters ago, another one, like this last one with a week or so of continuous sub zero temperatures both day and night. Phormiums either very damaged or dead in gardens near me also. I haven't seen this since the mid eighties!!
