Whilst in the RAF, we paid water rates on an 'averaged across the country' way, together with the council tax. This was then taken at source from Snowdrop's salary - so we have no idea what is good/bad/indifferent on water rates.
We are on a meter in the new place. I've opted to pay by direct debit and they've come back with a £450 bill for the year.
My questions: - how do they know how much I will use given we've only just moved it? - is it like paying for gas/electric where they will amend as you go? - is £35 a month expensive/average?

piskie I think we pay about £33-£35 a month (with United Utilities) so that's about average, we're on a meter now as well & when we moved in here they worked out the payments on average usage for the size of house & number of occupants, apparently the average person uses about 150 litres a day. Our usage is usually just slightly below average now, I think they did adjust the payments after so many months & after taking 'actual' readings from the meter, they do it themselves & as the meter is under the path outside our house we never see anyone. You'll be getting decent water now Piskie up here, not that 'hard' stuff you're used to where you were!

Oh indeed!! The water is amazing - I no longer need a beastly filter just and lime scale hasn't shown itself in almost two weeks yet. Happy Happy

I guess we are lucky up here as we don't have meters for water.

We are on a meter here and I pay the bill when its due.....we pay £80-85 approx every 3 months. My neighbour pays by dd and is always chasing up Northumbria Water for refunds......
