Ok folks what do you reckon the best internet provider is? We have PRIMUS part of the NEW CALL group and the service is abysmal. Seems to be off line more than on. No cable here so it is ADSL Of course it could just be our area but other folks seem to be ok with BT so may have to consider that.

We have Talk Talk (AOL) which can be slow at times but not too bad. I keep looking at all the offers which come through the door but most of them want you to take a complete package of TV/Satellite/Cable/Phone/Mobile/Broadband etc. & all seem to go up in price quite a lot after the initial offer period so haven't got around to finding a better deal yet.

Plusnet aren't bad you can talk to English people if things do go wrong, and they get an engineer out to you pretty quick if necessary. My Mum has Plusnet as she's 'right out in the sticks,' so when cows eat her phone wires, or whatever, you can talk to someone about it! She's never going to have brilliantly fast internet where she is and Plusnet were quite a good price for what she gets. BT in her area is rubbish. (I think it depends a lot where you are though.) We have BT internet right at the moment, they had a cheap offer on, we are in town and they are fine... but my in-laws who live out in the countryside have a lot of issues. The BT 'support' people are not great to talk to.

BT here - no complaints at all. Except for the fact that we have a fault on the line, in the new house, that we are still waiting for them to fix it.

gee thanks for the replies everyone. Think I'll have to go to confused dot com When this one is working it is fine but it cuts out at usually the most inconvenient time. We actually changed from talk talk which was not too bad. Got a friend here who works for BT so when I see him I might just ask him. No cable here daitheplant When broadband arrived at our old home in Surrey the difference was astounding. Compared to the old dial up which was all we had then. got to check what we are paying for atm as its on her ladyship's account.

sweetpea, in my experience the ISP's themselves rarely 'break down' ... it is more often an issue with the actual copper cable going to the telephone exchange, or a problem with the router-thingy in your house. What are the symptoms ?

What are the symptoms ? hot flushes, cold sweats, runny nose, high temperature and various aches and pains Actually you may be right about the router as it was supplied by the isp. It regularly cuts out and at times it says you are not connected yet elsewhere it says you ARE. very annoying and nothing like the service it should be.

I wrote a long essay on this... but then deleted it. sweetpea, when your internet fails, does re-powering the router "solve" the problem ? (for a few days). What make/model of router do you have ? I really doubt that you have a line problem, or that the ISP's termination/link equipment is at fault. I mean... it's POSSIBLE I guess.. but I would STRONGLY suggest that we focus on the router initially ? If we can get reproducable symptoms out of it, then you have a stick to beat the ISP over the head with, and they will simply replace the router. (they are REALLY cheap these days). (I'm a former I.T. technician, and I've had a lot of experience with these sorts of problems)

All in all very frustrating. However there are worse things (red spider mite comes to mind) Right then, off to fall asleep in front of telly. Eurovision song contest? No thanks, likewise BGT
