Anybody have any thoughts on what may have made this beauty?

It is the narrowness which throws me, Lou.

It is indeed the start of a comb made by bees. Looks like they have abandoned it though and moved on.

It is beautiful isn't it, wonder why the bees left it? We've got bumble bees nesting in our garden at the moment, they've taken up residence in a hole in the ivy 'tree' at the end of the garden which seems to have died off a lot but has some new life at the bottom & another vine growing through it.

That IS amazing, daitheplant. As for the missing bees... weeeelll... it IS in Wales, so perhaps its an Apoidean holiday cottage ?

Actually, there are 2 active hives about 20ft away.

Are they recent, or established ?

Actually, there are 2 active hives about 20ft away. Could they have started it when they swarmed during our prolonged dry spell, then the recent rains told them it was in a poor location, so they've looked for somewhere drier?

Are they recent, or established ? They are well established Roofus. Di, apparently some of the bees did swarm but didn`t stay in the garden.
