It's probably something to do with the weather grindle it looks like it's had a few spurts of growth & is reaching up towards the light? With luck you might get another flower on it, the lupins I've got in pots by the house all died completely down but now have new foliage on.

could be SueA but this is the flower stem, once the flowers fell of this happened instead of it setting seed ?? which seems a bit strange

I see what you mean now grindle, I thought the whole stalk was new growth, I've had a few leaves appear on a flower stalk but it is odd that yours grew all that new foliage & didn't develop a seedhead isn't it.

it is isn't it, I think I might leave it just to see what happens to it It will get older and eventually die, always happens you know. Not seen this with lupins but had something similar with tomatoes once. long time ago so can't remember the details.
