Can anyone tell me what this is please? It was growing (not very energetically) around a leftover stump/roots of an old shrub, my husband just cleared it out. Seems happier in the greenhouse. It was pretty, looks a bit canna/calla lily like to me? Or have I just potted up a really pretty weed? Also, I recently read in Garden News that lily bulbs are hardy outside. I always thought they needed to come in the greenhouse over winter. Am I wasting space in the greenhouse with my Oriental/Asiatic lilies in pots, would they be fine outside? It just said 'lilies' I think - not specific types, or whether it meant pots/in the ground. ETA - sorry Tinypic is refusing to let me post a photo immediately. I will do so ASAP. When the stupid website eventually comes back...

I agree with grindle Bess, it looks like arum Italicum & will be fine outdoors, they get pretty orange/red berries on them. Lilies are pretty hardy, I've always left mine outdoors all year round in pots & they survive.

Thank you all. Happy to know I can put my lilies out and make a bit more space in the greenhouse.
I will find a better place for the Arum outside, where I can enjoy those leaves. I possibly might've recognised it if it had flowered and had seeds this year, but I guess it was too disturbed.

Arums have the most common names of any British plant. Most of them refer to the phallic nature of the 'flower'. Can be very invasive by the way. Grown from seed you do get some variation of the quality of the leaf marking and about 1/3 of the seedlings will be pure green. The berries are toxic, but supposedly eating one makes you feel that you are chewing a mouthful of needles.
