These were planted in the autumn (from Aldi) can anyone tell me why they might be so sad? Can I rescue them? I don't think I did anything particularly awful to the roots... they're in a new border, on a fairly exposed front lawn that slopes (not sitting in water, for instance.)

Some hebes can be a bit tender Bess & lose some of their leaves or even die, I seem to remember one of mine died in a cold winter years ago & it was an established plant. Yours might just drop those brown leaves & then recover with any luck.

I hope you cane save them Bess. I have never been able to grow a variegated Hebe. They always die on me.

I saw some hebes growing away on a Welsh hillside border last week, Eli - lovely purples. Sadly I can't find a photo of them to confirm what type they were!
Mine were looking a bit better, i think, in the warmer weather last week, but it's getting colder and nastier again. I might have to relocate them if they survive, and get something tougher.
