I've been given a pot of this plant by a garden club member, haven't grown it before, but am a bit worried as when I looked it up it said it was a spreading plant. Does this mean 'invasive' or 'controllable'. Can someone help please?

I have it, Peony, and it does 'walk' but in my garden, I don't find it a nuisance at all. I do know that some people find it a trial - what's your soil like? Mine is a good neutral loam.

I had this plant a few years ago and found that it did spread too much....but then, I do have a small garden

How about sinking a bottomless pot to contain it, Peony?

Mine is neutral, alkaline in places, very stony, and where I was thinking of planting the Saponaria, a free draining sloping border which is mainly sunny. I pack my plants in fairly tightly, don't like bare soil, but I think I'll chance it, and keep a close eye on it. I've got a Persicaria which is a bit of a "spreader" but I haven't found it too difficult to manage, and it sounds as though the Saponaria is similar in habit. I'll give it a try and if it rampages around it will go to the compost ;D Thank you for the advice

I think it has a very pretty flower, Peony, and I even planted another one when I did a little 'makeover' in the front garden last summer. Good luck with yours!

I have the double form and it is a thug, its called bouncing bet. I too had it in a bottomless pot. I should have had it in a bottomed pot. I have it through shrubs and borders. I pull it out by the bags full/
