someone at our garden club asked if you can compost laurel leaves, any ideas, I always put mine in the recycling so have no idea

I think the main problem is the leaves are quite tough but if they're chopped up first they should break down eventually if mixed into a compost heap & any poisons in the leaves would be 'killed off' in the process. I've only ever chucked the odd spotted laurel leaf in my compost bin but imagine they do take a while to break down.

I used to put prunings in the shredder and add to the compost heap. They do have a rather stringent smell to them and I've heard it said they are poisonous but no idea about that and I don't eat them.
