Anyone know If it is possible to grow jobs tears (coix lacryma jobi) here in the UK . I woulds like to make beads with the greyish coloured seeds .

I'd never heard of those ladybird so I looked them up & it seems they are 'grasses' & you can grow them as a tender annual so either sow indoors & plant out after frosts or sow direct in spring after the last frosts. The only thing I would worry about is if we have enough sunshine in late summer for them to set seed properly but they do look good for making beads.

I bought some seeds they look just like the beads above and very hard . I`ll give them a go in side and out and see if I can get enough seeds for one project.

Couldn't you harvest runner-bean seeds, and paint them grey ?
