This is a great idea for cleaning our beaches, would be nice if plenty more followed

It is a great idea grindle, they could find themselves inundated with buckets of rubbish though so I hope they've got some way of getting rid of it all - they'll probably get hammered by fees from the council to take away 'trade' waste!

It's a good idea Litter is dreadful. I went into the town yesterday (about two miles) and there was litter all the way along the roadside on both sides.

Brilliant idea. Even the new fine for rubbish thrown from cars is hardly going to work unless the complainant has a camera or observer. I used to think littering was illegal. Silly me! However, gardeners have a conscience.

An even better idea would be to nail the litter louts to that post The law in this country is a joke and not a funny one. Bring back public flogging and more for those fly tippers who ravage our countryside with their truckloads of filthy garbage strewn all over.

I agree with the fly tipping, the moors on my way to Plymouth are constantly plagued with them, also McD's packaging just thrown from cars, it's sad to see. I guess every little helps in the fight with litter

You sparked off a conversation in this house grindle. My son remembers strict laws against littering and fines imposed in Australia.. It is not as bad there, but there are a lot of bins available. There are large gas barbeques in all the parks and on the foreshore of all the beaches. The council clean them every morning, although they are left quite clean. There are exercise machines all around the parks too. We used the barbeque near us to watch the sea lapping and let children play on the beach. Swimming was In the safe netted area of course. Hattie (previously Isla) has had two birthday parties at the beach.

Last year I started to tie the litter I found on the little back road that goes past the bottom of my garden, on to a post (which was in my garden) and I put a sign on it saying "LITTER LOUTS" and I found the littering stopped. Maybe they threw it down somewhere else, but maybe they didn't.

I remember you showing us the photos Eli & I'm glad it worked for you. We don't have a problem with litter near our house now as it's in a cul-de-sac so we don't tend to get people walking past & dropping things, our old house however always had rubbish blowing into the front garden as it was on a popular busy side road with a chip shop & off licence on the corner & a pub around at the other end. We have problems with fly tipping on the moss down the road though, the poor farmers are always posting photos on the local Facebook pages of piles of dumped sofas, fridges, builder's waste etc., there's a good recycling site just along the road but the 'white van men' won't go there as they'd have to pay for commercial tipping.

I'm glad you don't have a litter problem SueA. The front of our house is also in a cul de sac but litter blows into it from other places.

people just don't seem to care any more, we have piles of rubbish next door, our New Neighbours !!!! moved in in October, he left in January, and she stock piles black bags full of household rubbish by the back door, we've complained several times to the council that own the house, but it seems she still takes no notice, come the summer it's going to smell horrible and attract rats, it seems it's an ongoing battle, but we won't give up, I don't want to have to walk past it every time I go out of the gate (I'll get off my soapbox now )
