'Froglife' the amphibian/reptile group posted a link to this story which might be of interest to our members in Australia, I'm sure Cherry has spotted these & keith - watch where you put your slippers! Snake & slipper

Yes keith that was the same story, the second one is scary though isn't it with it getting into a child's room, I'm glad we only have one poisonous snake over here & it generally keeps away from people!

Thanks keith but one's enough for us! I've only seen an adder once I think years ago on a visit to Corfe castle but have seen grass snakes once or twice on walks. I find snakes fascinating but wouldn't want them wandering into our house as they do in Australia.

I haven’t seen these articles SueA and keith. We had our own horrors with up to 4 snakes a day on the property in Magnetic Island. The latest was a death adder which is one of the most venomous snakes in the world. Do you remember I had to have a snake removed from the air conditioner? I really detest snakes, even though I was brought up with this danger, even in Victoria. We had no spiders on the Island that I knew about. Our gardeners were terrified that they might come across spiders and often would not go into the ginger lilies to prune them out. I would not tell them about the snakes until they saw them. I must try and work out the photos. The path beside my flat was called the snake path. A whip snake came into the big house when we were away for the day. These tend to go away and are not confrontational like the death adder.

Cherry I had one slide in front of me about 1mt away when walking through the grasses on Phillip Island I placed my big surf rod in front of me if it came any closer but it kept going and when it passes so did I. I have been to an area west of Cairns know for the Adders and told to make a lot of noise when walking to scare them off. I have also seen sea snakes swimming around the boat at night on the Great Barrier Reef. Not recommended for night swimming Snakes and BIG Sharks Keith

Cherry & keith , I can see that if you're out & about as long as you keep out of their way they will probably keep out of yours but I would be really worried about snakes getting into the house, I don't think I could have slept next to the 'snake path' Cherry! I've stroked a python & held a tarantula in controlled settings but wouldn't go near them in the wild, I remember when I was 21 & we went on holiday to Morocco there was a snake charmer who came to the hotel as entertainment & did his act on the floor as we sat around in a circle, I was fascinated by them - my O.H. spent the evening with his legs tucked up on the sofa with his beer bottle firmly in his hand in case they came near him!

Heck keith, Cherry was living in Townsville not long ago before she moved over to Magnetic Island for a while, that is frightening, I would be worried if I was gardening there.

SueA
Possibly only Saltwater crocodiles and Sharks there plus these nice chaps, the most dangerous snake on Magnetic Island is the death adder.
Only difference down south just big sharks and our share of snakes
Its still a great place to live.

I think you may be our only active Aussie gardener at the moment keith, we have had one or two pop in & out & Cherry was back living in Australia for two years until recently, she's in Scotland/Norfolk again now. I have a half sister who lives near Sydney who used to garden but now lives in a retirement village & just grows a few container plants, a few other members such as sweetpea have relatives over in Australia too.
